FOR ANY LOCATION AND ALL CONDITIONS

For any location and all conditions. Universal nylon plush material for durability and versatility. Optimal balance of grip/glide/weight/durability.

The stiff material of the ALPINIST+ tip creates a rigid platform that keeps snow from creeping under the skin and extends the use of your adhesive.

New tip connector with extended TPU tip and self-aligning stainless-steel hands give a secure, lightweight connection and superior glide while trailbreaking. G3's low profile, elongated tail strap makes transitions fast and easy.

The refined camming clip stays positioned on the ski, reduces wear and allows for easy adjustments. Removable rip strip reduces skin-to-skin adhesion, making it easier to pull apart skins. If your glue gets contaminated on an epic traverse, you can remove the strip for extra adhesion.

First time tourer

From a design perspective, a well made product.

First time going touring, did some simple laps on Seymour. Snow was packed and slippery in 0 deg weather but the skins worked really well.

Mounted them on Rossi Soul 7s which require the 145 medium skin but then require trimming the TPU tip a bit.
Setup was easy but using the trim tool on the TPU tip dulled the blade a bit leaving a less-than-smooth edge to the skin trim.

Recommend cutting the TPU (if needed) with scissors or a different blade than the trim tool.

A friend got the Alpinist minimal version which setup really easy and had same performance. Not entirely sure on the benefit of the extended TPU piece.

Alpinist + Universalist Climbing Skins

Our family has purchased a variety of G3 equipment, between skis and skins. We love G3. These skins, however, are a step back from previous skins. The white fish scale plastic on the tip becomes rigid in cold weather and I see no functional "plus" side to it. The rigidity sometimes leads to gaps between plastic and ski, allowing of snow to sneak in. Additionally, when transitioning in the cold its impossible to fold easily and pack away because the plastic is so rigid. My old Alpinist skins had no such plastic, and they never failed...

The bag that the skins are stowed in are an upgrade on the last G3 skins I bought, which had a strange velcro bad.

I would buy these skins again if they got rid of the plastic fish scale stuff on the tip.

Impressive waterproofing

I've had various G3 skins over the years and have seen my share of issues - I've had glue completely fail on me, snow clumping and icing to drive you nuts, and snow creep at the tips preventing skins from sticking properly. With all that said I used these skis for a winter, including month long spring traverse in harsh Purcell conditions, and they impressed. On that trip, BD, coltex, and older G3 skins regularly had clumping issues, these almost never did. The glue held up surprising well. The plastic tips are not my favorite, but they generally kept the snow out. Overall quite happy with these.

Not sure about plastic at tip

My 5th set of skins, 4 of which G3. Powder tour x 1 week with these ones…agree with other comments that the plastic part at the tip without adhesive can facilitate an entry point for snow. A bit bulky to fold up. Otherwise functioned well. Looking for another set for different skis and will not buy these again.

Great Skins

These are solid, dependable skins. As the name says they work pretty darn well in all conditions. We've had a real mix this winter and while they didn't particularly stand out in any one condition I also cant complain about their performance at all. As someone who isn't interested in owning a quiver of skins this is exactly what I'm after. I'm still not 100% solid on the plastic bit up front and find it kind of awkward for storing the skins but I haven't put a ton of days on them yet so I'm thinking that may change.
